“Always on the fuckin' job, I got no hobbies”

“Sippin’ wine, feelin’ fine”

This past August, Marlon and I headed to the concrete jungle city of Johannesburg. In between shoots and editing, we could not imagine returning to Cape Town without a little experience. Right?

One night after doing a fucking dope shoot (soon to follow), we decided to explore a little bit of Melville. Side note: I wish that I asked locals where the dopest place to explore, apparently, it’s Maboneng. Is this true? Anyway, we ended up in Melville. A cool spot, a little reminder of Long Street in the Mother City. 7th Street had a mixture of chowing spots, each of which were unique enough to satisfy any kind of mood. With Uber being costly, particularly if you’re travelling from one part of the city to another, it’s essential to do as much as possible.

Poppy’s Restaurant
Okay so this is a cool spot as it has a relaxing vibe. This especially when you’d like to enjoy a few cocktails and a lekker meal. I had so many cocktails I can’t recall what I had. All I know it was really good and worth my hard-earned cash. Their deep-fried onions are the reason why I have been going through a hectic obsession. Every time I have drinks I have to try onion rings. It’s now part of my tradition. Moving on to the food. The food of the people next to us looked so good, in portion and just made really well that I couldn’t resist. We ordered hake and chips, and to our surprise it was just the way be liked it. Puffy goodness. Believe it or not, taking photos of the food was the last thing I thought about. Bummer.

Accommodation
We had a short time to plan as things were moving really fast. Our best bet had been AirBnb. Best choice. We landed in this cool, tranquil, well put together cottage. We spent most of our nights outside, enjoying the solitude.

Working with an all-Johannesburg women team
There’s something different about the people I worked with. From the model to the make-up artist to the stylist, these ladies really blew me away. The magic created with these talented women exceeded my expectations! I seriously would like to move just for the type of creatives in Johannesburg. Check it out down below:

All in all, the city was amazing and I know that was just a taster. I look forward to collaborating with more like-minded creatives!
